Classical Departments Worldwide
Departments are listed geographically, in five sections:
Britain and Ireland
Europe and Near East
The Americas
Africa
Asia and Australasia
- FIEC (International Federation of the Societies of Classical Studies, with links to National Associations)
[Please note that the section on European departments is now very selective, and
that on American departments is longer maintained. In their place, links are given to KIRKE,
the excellent collection of resources edited by Ulrich Schmitzer at Humboldt University, Berlin.
This page aims to keep an updated listing of British departments, and some others worldwide which can be tricky to find via Google. Other classical resources, including online archives, can be found on the Digital Humanities and Library pages: it's also worth checking the listing of British Classical Associations and Historical Societies for online archive material.]
As the multi-disciplinary nature of classical studies is now being reflected in departmental titles,
the advertised subject areas (other than the default 'classics') are given with this listing.
The most common are history and archaeology, with a few other specialisations.
