JOSEPH ANTHONY CREMONA
21 August 1922 – 19 March 2003

Joe Cremona, University Lecturer in Romance Philology in the University of Cambridge 1955-1989 and Fellow of Trinity Hall 1966-2003, was the inspiration for a generation of British Romance Linguists. The Romance Linguistics Seminar grew out of a Romance Linguistics Research Seminar in Cambridge which had flourished in the early 1970s and whose members were then beginning to take up posts in Universities throughout the UK. Although RLS rapidly came to have an international membership, Joe remained its father-figure and guiding spirit until his death in 2003.
