This website provides pdfs of certain of my publications. For over three decades I have worked for BirdLife International, first as Chairman of what was then the ICBP Bustard Group, then 1981–2001 as compiler of the International Bird Red Data Book, and since 2001 as Leventis Fellow in Conservation Biology, in which capacity amongst other things I:

  • support PhD work (at Cambridge University, University of East Anglia, Oxford University, Manchester Metropolitan University, and UNESP São Paulo) on threatened birds and habitats in St Lucia, the Peruvian Amazon, Brazil, Botswana, Cambodia and the Philippines,

  • undertake fieldwork on threatened birds in Brazil, Ethiopia and Spain,

  • work on various taxonomic issues relating to the BirdLife International world checklist of birds (with particular emphasis on Asian species), and

  • sit on the advisory boards of the Loro Parque Foundation (Tenerife, Spain), National Aviary (Pittsburgh, USA), Parrots International (Los Angeles, USA), Act for Nature Foundation (Monaco) and ProAves Colombia (Bogotá, Colombia), and the Council of the Oriental Bird Club (Bedford, UK)
My work is supported by the A. G. Leventis Foundation, the Bromley Trust and the Wetland Trust.
