Subwebs and Security

Problem

Creating subwebs with specific permissions in order to security protect sections of your database (using the NTServer security permissions - see Security) will cause the connection to the database (in the fpdb folder) to be lost in the subwebs.

Solution

You will need to tell the subweb pages to find the database in the main web folder, as they will be looking for a file (called global.asa) in the subweb that points to the database. There are therefore 2 steps:

1. Copy the _FPClass Folder and global.asa file from the main folder and paste it into the subweb.

2. Open the global.asa now in the subweb, and locate in the code something like this:

Application("MYDB_ConnectionString") = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=URL=fpdb/MYDB.mdb"

This code points to the database (here called MYDB.mbd, but it will have whatever name you have given it) in the fpdb folder. To tell the subweb to find it in the main web folder, you need to tell it to go up a folder by adding ../ before fpdb, thus:

Application("MYDB_ConnectionString") = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=URL=../fpdb/MYDB.mdb"
