On 13 February 2001, two cars collided at the junction of the A505 and
A507 in Baldock. One of them spun off and collided with our building,
demolishing one of the oak posts which support the overhanging room,
and coming to rest against the other. It says a lot for the strength of
a wooden-framed building that (apart from the broken post) there was
only a small amount of cracked plaster and mortar. If the car had hit
the corner of a brick house, there would have been very serious damage
to the house and to the driver of the car!
