On the hottest day of the year so far, 15 of us met at the Ship Inn, Wandsworth (one from Berlin, one from San Francisco, one from Dubai: the power of the Web!), met 2 more as were leaving, and collected 2 from Battersea Bridge and 5 in Battersea Park, so the total was 24 - two more than on the last walk!

The mob was very well-behaved, and walked fast enough on the first section to Battersea Park. One unexpected participant was our friend from Dubai! Quite a shock suddenly to see him in Battersea Park when we thought he was still in Dubai, but "he wanted to surprise us". He did.

This time I had made sure there were enough pubs on the route, so we had a rest at a bar opposite Battersea Dogs Home. However, I have a complaint about The Old Father Thames in Lambeth - its sign on the wall says "Open All Day"; however, on closer inspection they close at 3pm!!

So it was a thirsty and hot bunch of survivors who got to Westminster, having lost a few on the way at Vauxhall. We decided not to walk any further, and split up there, a number of us continuing to Charing Cross to catch tubes and trains.

Thanks to everyone for coming and making it such a success. Next year's walk (24 June 2000) will probably be along the canal from Paddington to Limehouse.
