About the paper:

 

The ab initio course in Russian literature (RU A3) is designed to develop your critical reading skills in the language, to introduce you to the wealth of creative writing in Russian, and to give you a taster of texts which you can study in more depth at Part IB.

 

The paper has two components.

 

The first is an anthology of texts from which a commentary will be set (you can see a sample exam paper by clicking on the link below).

i.)   Lermontov ‘Bela’ chapter from Hero of Our Time

ii)   Pushkin's poem  To the fountain of Bakhchisarai  palace

iii) Turgenev’s story 'The Encounter'

iv) Zoshchenko's story 'The Aristocrat'

 

The second consists of two short works, one in verse, one in prose. An essay will be set on EACH of the texts in the exam paper

i)  Pushkin’s epic poem The Fountain of Bakhchisarai Palace

ii) Tolstoi’s Death of Ivan Ilich
