Student Learning Difficulties in
Science
Learning science is challenging for many students.
Research in science education explores the nature of student thinking and
learning in science, and supports the development of approaches to effective
teaching.
Much of this work has been undertaken from a 'constructivist' perspective:
and may be considered to make up a coherent (and 'progressive') research programme.
The science learning doctor model
is designed to help teachers with diagnostic (formative) assessment, based
on the main types of 'learning
blocks' or 'learning impediments' which work against students acquiring
scientific concepts.
