Supervision of graduate
research projects in science education
Dr. Keith Taber teaches across
a range of post-graduate courses. He has supervised, or is currently
supervising, research students exploring a range of topics - including:
- conceptual learning about the concept of
field in physics (Greek context, c.17-18 year olds)
- conceptual
learning in astronomy topics (UK secondary focus, 14-16 year olds)
- thought experimentation and
physics learning (UK sixth form focus, c.16-18 year olds)
- metacognitive aspects of physics
problem solving (UK secondary focus, c.14-16 year olds)
- intuitive learning in physics
(UK sixth form focus, c.16-17 year olds)
- using drama-based simulations
in teaching chemistry/science (UK secondary, c.11-16 year olds)
- coordination of knowledge facets
in solving physics problems (UK, sixth form focus, c.16-18 year olds)
- conceptual learning in key chemical topics
(Swedish high school focus, c.16-17 year olds)
- science teacher beliefs and classroom behaviour
(UK, secondary focus, c.11-14 year olds)
- explaining chemical and
physics phenomena in terms of particle theory (Mexican/UK secondary
focus, c.11-16 year olds)
- girls'
experiences of learning physics topics in computer-supported science lessons
(UK upper secondary focus, 14-16 year olds)
- constructivist science teaching at secondary level
(UK and Turkish focus)
He welcomes enquiries from potential research
students who wish to train as educational researchers and undertake
research into learning and teaching in science, or from trained/experienced
researchers considering doctoral studies (full or part-time) in this
area. Personal enquies (i.e. from those interested in being supervised
by Dr. Taber) should be addressed to kst24@cam.ac.uk
(The Faculty of Education has a wide range of academic staff supervising
research students in many other research areas.)
The Faculty invites interest from those looking for research training, docotoral studies,
or post-doctoral fellowships.
Those considering applying to the educational research course or for
admission to doctoral studies should also consult the relevant University
and Faculty websites to check details of Faculty contacts, admissions
requirements and processes, regulations for graduate students and course
costs.
