Fontographer generates TrueType and Postscript for MacOS and Microsoft Windows. TrueType is built-in to Macintosh System 7 and Microsoft Windows, and available via the TrueType INIT in Macintosh System 6. MacOS Postscript Type 1 requires Adobe Type Manager. Postscript Type 3 requires a Postscript printer. Type 3 is used instead of Type 1 where necessary for features such as grayscale.
The sample images indicate which characters their fonts include, e.g. caps only, basic punctuation, numbers, etc.
I attempt to create the illusion of 3-dimensiality in most of these fonts. Within the confines of TrueType and Postscript Type 1 (no grayscale), this effect benefits from experimentation with halftones such as the the linear, angled, pseudo-grayscale used in StilettoSilver and RotondoSilver. ArgentumSilver takes the alternative route of using Postscript Type 3 which supports real grayscale (but no gradients), gaining quality but sacrificing compatibility.
