TIM BUTTON's HOMEPAGE
I am a Research Fellow in philosophy at St. John's College, and an Affiliated Lecturer in the Philosophy Faculty, at Cambridge University. From January - May 2012, I will be a visiting scholar at UTexas.
My research interests lie primarily in metaphysics, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophical logic. I have related interests in philosophy of language, and metametaphysics.
My biggest philosophical project to date has been the composition of a book manuscript, The Limits of Realism. This explores the realism/antirealism debate in analytic philosophy. Working around a scaffolding erected by Putnam, it seeks to overcome the dichotomy between internal and external versions of realism.
This book manuscript is a major development of my PhD, Cats and Vats: Putnam's attacks on metaphysical realism, which I completed in Cambridge. These interests have resulted in me becoming the PhilPapers editor for: the Model-Theoretic Argument, Internal Realism and Brains in Vats. Please help to improve these resources, and get in touch if these themes interest you as they do me. I can be contacted by email at tecb2 at cam dot ac dot uk.
